Get In Touch
Nervous Patients
Dentistry can be a worrying thing. We know this. It doesn’t have to be – our team of friendly and welcoming dentists and dental nurses will do everything they can to put your fears at ease – but that doesn’t always stop people feeling nervous.
If you are really nervous about your treatment, firstly let us say that we have seen it all. There is nothing to be worried about here, and we have certainly worked with patients more nervous than you.
Secondly, we have the option of medication to put you in a dreamlike state where you will be completely at ease with the treatment. We will monitor your heart rate and blood pressure at all times to make sure everything is just fine, perform the procedure, and before you know it you will be waking up ready to go home. It will feel like minutes have passed.
We will do everything we can to make your treatments as comfortable as possible, but sedation just adds that extra bit of relaxation. It helps prevent gag reflexes, is completely painless, and gives you a sense of calm and happiness.
There are a couple of different ways to administer sedation. Oral sedation tends to begin the night before, with a second dose in the morning. IV and inhalation sedation are administered just before the treatment, as they generally take effect within just a few minutes. They will make you feel warm, comfortable, and blissfully relaxed as the dentist performs the treatment and keeps a close eye on your wellbeing.
It will not make you unconscious, but it will dull the senses and make it unsafe to drive or operate machinery for a while afterwards. Inhalation and IV-administered sedation take a little longer to wear off completely than oral sedation. But whichever method you choose, if you opt for sedation, definitely ask a friend or family member to come with you or arrange transport so you can return home safely.
It isn’t compulsory, but consider dental sedation is you feel uncomfortable before a treatment and aren’t sure you will be able to go through with it. This, and the welcoming smiles of our dedicated staff, will calm you down enough to have a pleasant experience here at Arndale Dental.
